Advocacy Discussion Happy Hour
This event is no longer on sale.
YFPA invites you to an Advocacy Discussion happy hour on Thursday, January 16, at 5:30 PM at A Man Full of Trouble Tavern, 127 Spruce Street. Join us for a conversation on "The YIMBY Movement: Historic Preservation's Response" by PlaceEconomics.
Cities nationwide are facing high housing costs and exploring solutions for affordable housing. The YIMBY movement, advocating deregulation and developer-driven housing production, has gained traction but often targets historic preservation as a barrier to development. This paper examines the YIMBY philosophy and provides an evidence-based response to its critique of preservation.
We will discuss the paper's findings, their impact, and other strategies to promote preservation in the face of YIMBY opposition. We'll think about what we can learn from YIMBY arguments and how to productively work alongside the people who make them.
The event is free to attend and pay-as-you-go, but we ask that you RSVP so we can circulate discussion prompts before the event!
