The North Atlantic Cities

"The North Atlantic Cities"

presented by Charles Duff, President of Jubilee Baltimore which focuses on redevelopment of Baltimore neighborhoods, and a lecturer at Johns Hopkins University.

Why do Philadelphia and London have row houses while Houston do not?  With that simple-sounding question Charles Duff embarked on an odyssey of travel and research that has resulted in a magnificent new book, The North Atlantic Cities.  Starting with Dutch cities in the 1600s, Duff shows how the world’s row house cities grew up together during four tumultuous centuries and form a great family of cities today. Duff will discuss his research and findings in this virtual lecture.

If you want to know why early Philadelphians built as they did, or if you want to know how Philadelphians right now are leading the pack in some very important kinds of urban development – and who is leading the pack in other kinds – you'll love this lecture.
