Save the Old Airy Street Prison
Community advocates in Norristown are fundraising to stop the demolition of the Old Airy Street Prison. Montgomery County applied for a demolition permit for the historic prison but must receive Norristown Municipal Council approval as it is located within the Central Norristown Historic District. Napoleon LeBrun designed both the prison and the neighboring County courthouse in the 1850s. While the prison has been vacant since 1986, preservationists are fighting to save and rehabilitate the historic front portion. All donations made to the campaign are tax-deductible.
